Long Overdue Update

November 20th, 2007 by katieclack

You probably are all wondering what the heck has been going on since I haven’t posted in quite some time! I wish I could say that we were off busy kiting the Maldives but unfortunately that’s about as far from the truth as it gets. Instead, we’ve been busy busting our buns this winter to save up money. This time of year we don’t get a day off until Christmas, and then we’re back at it until the middle of January. Since winter kiting in the Pacific Northwest isn’t condusive to teaching lessons every day, we switch gears to our other business, “Exterior Christmas Lighting.” Yup, that’s right. We install Christmas lights on high end residential and commercial properties in metropolitan Seattle. Jason’s been at it for almost 15 years now!

The reason we work so hard to save up this time of year is so that we can pursure our dreams. Last March, we took the plunge and bought property south of the border in La Ventana, Mexico. It’s a little fishing village to the naked eye, but to us, it’s kiteboarding paradise. Buying property in Mexico was a nerve-wracking experience but now that it’s all said and done, everything went off without a hitch. If you have any questions about the buying process, feel free to contact us as we’re always happy to share what we learned with others. We were lucky enough to find a great piece of property with a killer view of the bay and incredible cardone cacti scattered about.

That being said, we’re saving our pesos so that we can spend a few months down there and begin building our dream “kite house”. We’re also in the process of obtaining our Mexican work visas so that we can teach down there during the winter as well. If you or any of your friends are headed down to La Ventana to escape the harsh NW winters and learn to kiteboard in the turquoise bathwater of the Sea of Cortez, let us know and we can arrange lessons.

Our driveway lined with cacti.
There are many great places to stay while you’re in the East Cape area, but Casa Verde is truly the best. Their charming casitas are very affordable and there is a common kitchen stocked with everything you could possibly need to grill up the Tuna of Mahi Mahi that are caught in the bay every morning. Not only do they offer free yoga on the rooftop every morning, they also have a ful library of DVDs and an on-site espresso machine and barista! I obviously can’t say enough good things about Casa Verde and I urge you to check our their great website. If nothing else, they have great pics of La Ventana.

I’ll be writing more about La Ventana and other winter getaways in the near future. For now, as I’m stringing up Christmas lights, I’ll be dreaming of Pablo’s Margaritas and 25 knot winds. I’m sure I won’t be the only one. : )
